- What We Build
Habitat East Bay/Silicon Valley homes are comfortable, attractive, “green,” sufficiently spacious, and accessible as needed.
Our house designs vary between developments to account for differences in neighborhood design aesthetics, to maximize lot space and shape, and lend individual character to the homes. The houses are typically two or three floors and, as duplexes or multi-unit houses, share walls with their neighboring houses.
In addition to building from the ground up, Habitat EBSV purchases foreclosed and abandoned bank-owned properties. These homes are renovated utilizing the traditional Habitat EBSV model with community support and offered to families that meet the same criteria as our new homes. Renovating homes allows Habitat EB/SV the opportunity to transform blighted properties and improve the current housing stock.
Habitat EBSV builds homes that are not only affordable, but also sustainable. Habitat EBSV builds using comprehensive green design. Many people think of solar panels when they think of green building, but the reality is that it encompasses much more. Green building is a whole house design that takes into account energy efficiency, smart use of building materials, water usage, and much more. Habitat EBSV builds green to take better care of the environment, Habitat homeowners and volunteers.
Habitat EBSV was the first Habitat affiliate in the Bay Area to begin building green in 2000. As one of the leading Habitat affiliates in affordable green building in the U.S. we plan to continue innovating the way that affordable housing can be built green.
