We send our thoughts and prayers to those affected by the North Bay fires as they continue to devastate communities across Northern California. Our thoughts are also with our sister affiliates serving the affected areas –
Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County,
Habitat for Humanity Napa and Solano, and
Habitat for Humanity of Mendocino Coast – as they respond and work to plan the rebuilding process. Reminders of the fires’ magnitude surround us here in the Bay Area as the air remains dense with smoke. Meanwhile, in these affected communities, the fires have taken entire communities, leaving thousands of families and businesses with nothing to return to.
A report of the total damage is still to be determined as the fires continue to burn. As of now, we do not know of any homes built by Habitat for Humanity that have suffered damage. However, sadly, many of the affiliates’ staff, volunteers, and board members are among those who have lost everything.
“We are taking this one day at a time and holding our community close to our hearts,” says Tamara Stanley, Habitat Sonoma County CEO. “Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. This mission has never been more needed.”
Habitat for Humanity’s disaster response team will aid in recovery and rebuilding efforts in affected neighborhoods. Together, we will rebuild these communities who have suffered so much loss.
Your support is critical in this collaboration to rebuild.
Every single day, Habitat works toward a world where everyone has a decent place to live. We live in an area where housing is a constant crisis, and never more so than in times like these. Thank you for being a part of the solution.
