Bank of America’s Global Build Initiative Creates Local Opportunity with Habitat for Humanity
Bank of America Team Members to Build in Hayward and San Jose
HAYWARD, CALIF. (October 2, 2025) —Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley and Bank of America will come together to address the need for safe, sustainable, and affordable housing in the area, marking the partnership with build days in Hayward and San Jose this month.
Though bank team members volunteer with Habitat year-round, the organizations emphasize engagement in October in observance of World Habitat Day on October 1st. The Bank of America Foundation is granting $70,000 to Habitat East Bay/Silicon Valley as a part of this year’s 11th annual Global Build initiative, and doubling down their impact by volunteering to build affordable homes in Hayward on October 2nd, and playhouses at their San Jose office on October 23rd.
Bank of America’s efforts will help build 10 new townhomes in the heart of Hayward, at a development known as Sequoia Grove. These homes will be sold through affordable mortgages next year to households earning low incomes, making homeownership possible for families barred from the opportunity on the open market. Then, by sponsoring a Playhouse build in San Jose later in the month, bank employees will design and build custom kid-sized spaces for local families and organizations that serve children, while supporting Habitat’s efforts to build and preserve affordable housing on a larger scale.
“Bank of America has been an incredible partner to Habitat for decades,” said Janice Jensen, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley. “The Global Build initiative is a wonderful way to lift up our shared values and focus our efforts on addressing local housing issues.”
Bank of America employees will volunteer with more than 90 Habitat organizations in the U.S. and internationally to help build, repair, or renovate homes. The company will also support Women Build projects in local communities and help facilitate Bank of America’s Better Money Habits® program with new Habitat homeowners.
In 2014, Bank of America and Habitat launched its first Global Build event in 36 communities around the world, engaging employees to work alongside families to build or improve a place they can call home. Since then, Global Build events have taken place with more than 110 local Habitat affiliates in the U.S. and in countries including Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam.
Bank of America’s partnership with Habitat strengthens its longstanding commitment to creating sustainable cities and communities around the world and helping families achieve affordable homeownership. Since 1986,Bank of America has donated more than $88 million over the course of the partnership to support Habitat’s efforts to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY EAST BAY/SILICON VALLEY has been working with the communities of Alameda, Contra Costa, and Santa Clara counties since 1986, advancing affordability and opportunity through housing. With the partnership of volunteers, supporters, advocates, and clients, we build, preserve, and prepare people for homeownership – and the transformative potential that comes with it.
Access to homeownership is a critical driver of improved economic, health, educational, social, and generational outcomes. Habitat East Bay/Silicon Valley’s model runs on community generosity, government investment, and client partnership to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
