Home Repairs Made Affordable

Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley offers 2 programs in Hayward to make affordable home repairs.

In partnership with the City of Hayward, Habitat offers a limited number of repair grants to homeowners including mobile homes. The City of Hayward directly offers low-income households reduced utility rates.

Habitat also administers the Renew Alameda County program, funded by Measure A1 Bond funds, for projects from $15,000 - $200,000.  Renew Alameda County (Renew AC) empowers low-income homeowners to remain safely in their homes. The program provides affordable, low-interest deferred payment loans to qualified homeowners. 

These loans will be used for home improvement projects that help create a safe and comfortable home. While the program is an Alameda County Housing & Community Development initiative, the program is operated by Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley. To apply, visit RenewAC.org.

Current Program Availablity & Timeline: Due to the high volume of applications we receive year‐round for the Hayward grant program all homeowners interested in applying only to the grant program are currently being added to a waitlist. However, the Renew Alameda County loan program (for projects from $15,000 - $150,000) is open for enrollment.

Requirements

Repair assessments are made by Habitat staff to determine the scope of work and funding.

Required Documentation
  • Photo IDs and Proof of Legal Residency for all Applicants
  • Copy of Certificate of Title 
  • Proof of occupancy (including space lease agreement if in a mobile home)
  • Copy of Homeowner’s Insurance Policy
  • Income documentation for all household members 18 years of age and older  
Requirements

To qualify for the program you must:

  • Own your home. 
  • Live in your home. 
  • Earn no more than the maximum income for your household size, in chart below. Maximum Income depends on the number of people in your household not including full-time caregivers.

REQUEST FOR SERVICE

Submit a Request for Service form online or by mail below. This request is your opportunity to tell us about yourself and your home repair needs.

Habitat follow up

Once we receive your Request for Service, Habitat will review your submission and contact you with further questions or requests for more information and required documentation.

Inspection

After your request has been reviewed by Habitat, a professional contractor will visit your home to inspect requested repairs and create a plan to complete the repairs,
