Women's Leadership Build
Habitat for Humanity’s Women’s Leadership Build is an opportunity for women and allies to create real change in the housing crisis.
Volunteers from sponsoring groups will build at Habitat’s newest development, Sequoia Grove, in Hayward. Together, we'll build more than homes. We'll build strong connections, new skills, and a lasting impact.
This year, participating groups can choose to build with us at our Women's Leadership Build Kick-Off on May 2nd, or pick your own build day throughout the month of May!

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear when volunteering on the construction site?
Please wear sturdy, close-toed shoes and work clothes that you do not mind getting dirty. Most volunteers wear sneakers, jeans, a shirt that covers their shoulders, and a sweatshirt. Long-sleeve shirts and pants will protect your skin and body from weather elements and minor scratches or cuts. For warmer months: bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to stay protected from the sun. For cooler months: wear layers and bring rain gear, as we will work through light rain. Habitat will provide protective equipment (hard hats, high visibility vests, etc.) as needed.
What should I bring with me?
Bring layers to dress right for the weather and a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to stay protected from the sun.
While uncommon in May, there is the potential for extreme heat in Hayward, please check the weather forecast prior to leaving and dress and plan accordingly. Bring rain gear, as we will work through light rain. Please make sure to bring a reusable water bottle as well!
Who will be buying the homes we are building?
A selected Habitat homebuyer will purchase the homes that volunteers will build during our Women's Leadership Build.
Qualifying Habitat homebuyers are individuals and families with limited income who have applied and been selected to participate in our Homeownership Program based on three main criteria - need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner.
There are homeowners like Shereda. Click here to read how Shereda came to Habitat looking for a stable future.
What tasks will volunteers be working on?
Do I need construction experience?
What is provided?
Light refreshments in the morning will be provided along with lunch. Each participant will also receive a Habitat Women’s Leadership Build t-shirt.
All hand and power tools and safety equipment, including hardhats, goggles, and gloves, will be provided.
You may bring your own hand tools if you would prefer to use them, but be sure to label them with your name.
What time do I need to be there?
Is there parking?
Yes.
Can I come for half the day?
While volunteering for the full shift is highly encouraged, we understand that outside obligations may need to take priority during your build day.
If you need to leave the site for an extended period at any point during the volunteer day, please make sure your crew leader is aware to ensure an accurate volunteer headcount.
