Building more affordable housing means building more opportunity for families to thrive. Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the state continue to work hard to change the future of thousands of Californian families through housing. Now you can help us build homes and hope through a voluntary tax contribution fund.

Now, you can join the fight for change when you fill in line #437 on your CA tax return this year with a donation to Habitat for Humanity.

Voluntary Contribution Tax Return

When you designate Habitat for your voluntary contribution, you’ll help us build a better California by providing housing opportunities for some of our state’s most vulnerable populations like seniors, teachers, social workers, and Veterans.

How to Get Started

File your own taxes?
Find us on your California Tax Return – we’re line 437 on Form 540. Even $1 can help build affordable homes and it’s tax deductible!

Filing later or using a tax preparer?
Send them an email now telling them you want to donate to the Habitat for Humanity Voluntary Tax Contribution Fund. Or download our reminder form to put with your tax documents.
Using Turbo Tax?
After completing your federal taxes and starting on your California tax return, select “YES” when prompted to donate to a California Special Fund. Find the Habitat for Humanity Voluntary Tax Contribution Fund and enter your donation amount in the box on the right of your screen.

A voluntary contribution is an election made by the taxpayer to designate a portion or all of their tax return to charitable funds. Voluntary contributions may be made by filling in a line with the amount you'd like to donate on your California Resident Income Tax Return Form 540.

Your voluntary contribution will be permitted as a charitable contribution on next year’s Federal Schedule A. Click here for more information about voluntary contributions.

Giving made even easier! Supporting affordable housing can be done with a donation as little as a dollar. Download our Voluntary Contribution form to give to your accountant!
