Construction Update: October

Fremont (Central Commons – 30 new homes, 2nd phase): We’re tackling some huge tasks to get Phase 2 of Central Commons ready for the rainy season. We’re making transformative progress as we work on exterior trim, siding, blocking, more framing, and sheathing. These are big jobs, but nothing our volunteers, staff, and AmeriCorps can’t handle! Our goal is to get phase two weatherized before the rains come. That way volunteers can spend the winter months working on the inside, the heart, of the homes. San Jose (Bridge Housing Communities – 1590 Las Plumas, San Jose): We’ve moved an additional six emergency sleeping cabins to their new home around the corner on Mabury Road, joining the previous six we moved in August!
But, there’s still work to be done. Volunteers at the Mabury Road site are building cabin porches and the community centers’ decks, as well as installing fencing, and finishing electrical so the cabins have power.
Back at the cabin assembly site on Las Plumas, volunteers are working on the drywall, storage, linoleum flooring, and accent siding for the remaining cabins.
