How building with Habitat is better for business

With more than 40 years under our toolbelt, we can confidently say there is no better feeling than teaching volunteers how to build a Habitat for Humanity home and seeing their smiles, their sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.

Companies that partner with Habitat – as a team building volunteer group or a sponsor – get to experience both of these feelings and then some. Because supporting Habitat is not only good for the community, but it’s good for business.

Here are 5 ways that building homes with Habitat builds your bottom line!

1. Team Morale
Build a stronger, more engaged and cohesive work environment.

Many companies and organizations support Habitat by sponsoring a Team Building experience. Teams join Habitat on our construction sites, with our Playhouse Program, doing home repairs, or at a ReStore – and double down on their volunteerism with a donation that benefits Habitat’s mission to build homes, communities, and hope.

When your team spends a day building with Habitat, they get a day of hands-on collaboration, learning new skills, and working in common purpose toward the greater good. Out-of-office experiences like these are shown to boost productivity, increase positive and relaxed feelings, and improve your in-office (or at-home) work environments.

2. Brand Boost
Build alongside a brand you know.Untitled design (16)

Habitat for Humanity has a brand valued at $15.6B, and is one of the most enduring, recognizable, and well-loved names in the philanthropic space. When you partner with Habitat, you not only align your values with ours, you also align your brand.

Partnerships with Habitat can come with a range of marketing benefits and activations customized to your company’s needs, to help you tell the story of your engagement in our mission.

3. Engaging Events
Build new experiences with new audiences.

Habitat East Bay/Silicon Valley has a number of signature events on and off the construction site every year – and we need partners to help us pull them off. By sponsoring Habitat events, your company can tap into unique experiences for team members and fresh avenues to reach a new audience of potential clients, customers, or talent.

4. Attraction and Retention
Build a workforce for the long run.

Study after study shows that meaningful work is linked to employee retention. Meaningful work connects what your employees do from 9 to 5 with a greater impact.

In a 2022 study done by Benevity, companies who partner with nonprofits see a 54% lower turnover rate.  Aligning with a brand like Habitat and offering a volunteer program build trust and pride among both your current and prospective employees.

So, a partnership with Habitat tells current and potential talent that you care about the housing crisis, community development, sustainability, and equity.

5. Customers Who Care
Build trust with your clientele.

A recent study found that nearly half of customers are more likely to buy from a company with a charitable partnership – and that proportion is even higher among younger decision-makers. So, when you invest in your community through a partnership with Habitat, there’s a good chance that customers and clients will be more likely to invest in you.

The above list is not exhaustive by any means, but it all comes down to this: when we work together to build a stronger community with equitable opportunity, we all benefit. If you’d like to explore a partnership that’s good for the community and great for business, we’d love to work with you to curate an engagement that’s meaningful, impactful, and beneficial.
