5 ways to turn your employer into impact!

September 30, 2020 Habitat News

Are you hooked on Habitat? Perhaps you’ve given your time and talents on the construction site or attended an event that supports our mission – like Cycle of Hope or a Home Dedication. Maybe you’ve made a financial donation for Habitat to leverage into affordable, stable housing for more of our neighbors!

No matter how you’ve supported Habitat, did you know that your employer may turn your support into an even greater impact?

Here are some ways to get your company behind your passion for Habitat, and take your impact even further.

1. Matching gifts

Are you already giving to Habitat? Tons of companies have established matching gift programs, which means that your gift can go twice as far. So, if you’re already a donor (THANK YOU!), check and see if your employer matches gifts. Or, if you’ve thought about donating, matching gifts are a great way to know that your gift will make an even bigger difference. Some companies even match at 2:1 or 3:1! Take a look here to see if your company has a matching gift program.

2. Volunteer hours matching

Many people know about gift matching, but an option that’s often overlooked is the volunteer grant. Many companies will offer a donation match to their employees’ volunteer time with a local organization. If you’re already putting in your sweat on site, why not get your employer to double down on your support? Check with your Human Resources or Corporate Social Responsibility department to find out if your company matches volunteer hours.

3. Automatic payroll deductions

Want to put your support for Habitat on autopilot? An automatic payroll deduction is an incredibly simple way to give to Habitat. Just talk to your Human Resources or Corporate Social Responsibility department about setting up an automatic withdrawal of a portion of your paycheck to be donated to Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley. It can be a small amount that you may not miss, but they truly do add up and provide important sustaining support for our mission – and especially if your company will match the donation, a little bit really can mean a lot!

4. Fundraising matches

This type of matching comes in especially handy if you’re participating in a Habitat event and raising support for us. Perhaps you’ve reached out to friends and family to support your Cycle of Hope ride or your build day. Well, some companies will actually match the funds you raise! Our Habitat events are important keystones in our fundraising efforts, generating critical support each year for our work. By getting your fundraising efforts matched by your employer, you can help make these events an even bigger changemaker.

5. Matching deadlines

Ok, this one isn’t really a way to partner with your employer to take your support to the next level, but it’s an important thing to keep in mind! Your employer likely has a deadline for submitting your giving, volunteer hours, or fundraising in order to be eligible for matching. Be sure to check with your Human Resources or Corporate Social Responsibility department about these dates.

We couldn’t do what we do without our vital community, and your support and contribution are the engine behind our mission. By getting your employer behind us, too, we can build even more.
