Raise Your Voice for Measure V

Vote Yes On Measure V

At Habitat East Bay/Silicon Valley, we’re proud of the work we’ve done to build a better San Jose through affordable housing. Whether it’s the San Jose dad who became a Habitat homeowner, and took the opportunity of an affordable mortgage to invest in his college education. Or the San Jose native, grateful that her father’s house – in her family for decades – can be saved through our Home Preservation Program. Or any of the many other lives changed through partnership with Habitat.

As many as we serve, however, there are thousands more people and families in the city of San Jose who are devastated by the housing crisis. We need a real investment in affordable housing at the local level, if we want to see real change.

Vote Yes On Measure V

That’s why we are asking San Jose voters to raise your voices on November 6th, and say YES to Measure V.

Measure V authorizes $450 million in general obligation bonds to create more affordable housing. This is critical funding San Jose needs to acquire land, build new affordable housing, and restore the housing we have, while transitioning people out of homelessness.

San Jose is in the midst of a shelter crisis. Over 4,300 people in the city are experiencing homelessness. Residents are being displaced by the high cost of housing, torn from the communities they call home. Those that stay on limited incomes are often so squeezed by housing costs, that they have little to spare for other necessities.

Measure V is a smart investment. It is holistic, allocating funds to alleviating homelessness and to creating affordable housing for working families. It is ambitious – funding the creation of up to 3,600 affordable units. It is judicious, with strong oversight and accountability built in to the measure.

San Jose is the heart of innovation, of smart problem-solving and solution-oriented thinking. Let’s apply that spirit to one of the greatest issues of our time: housing. Join us in supporting Measure V.
