Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley (HEBSV) is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International serving Contra Costa, Alameda, and Santa Clara counties. Habitat Community Capital (HCC) is a non-profit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) controlled by HEBSV that lends money to organizations throughout California and nearby states to finance the construction and purchase of affordable housing.
Position Summary: The HCC Loan Advisor has two primary responsibilities: managing HCC’s customer base and driving the mortgage loan origination process. The Loan Advisor is responsible for lead generation, cultivation, and conversion for financing transactions with affordable housing entities. Typical loans include construction loans for building projects, mortgage purchases, and mortgage loans to these organizations’ low-income homebuyers. For mortgage loans, the Loan Advisor sees the process through to completion, working directly with the affordable housing entity and its homebuyers to gather and input information, generate and process documentation, and bring the transaction to a close.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Originate mortgage loans to pre-qualified low-income homebuyers
- Work with affordable housing organizations to gather homebuyer information and input into HCC’s systems
- Utilize HCC’s software to generate, distribute and collect disclosures, loan packages, and other documentation
- Remediate any missing or unclear information
- Complete setup process with HCC’s mortgage loan servicer
- Coordinate with HCC team for closing and wiring of funds
- Maintain files for all hard copies of completed mortgage loan documents
2. Manage HCC’s customer base
- Develop working relationships with affordable housing organizations; identify and connect with the decisionmaker on financing transactions
- Contact new/existing customers to understand needs and communicate how HCC’s products meet these needs
- Be able to explain the benefits of financing and answer questions about financial products
- Maintain an accurate database of clients and leads
- Provide status reports on HCC’s pipeline of potential loans
- Work with marketing team to develop materials that communicate loan options to potential customers
- Attend conferences for learning and networking; session presentations are a possibility
Position Requirements: - Experience originating mortgage loans required (including loan disclosures, loan packages, compliance, etc.)
- Experience using Encompass software strongly preferred
- Prior experience in sales or similar relationship management
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to network both in-person and virtually
- Able to communicate effectively with the leadership of organizations by phone, email, video, and in-person
- Must be a self-starter and able to work independently
Working Environment/Minimum Physical Requirements:
Work will be performed both remotely and at Habitat’s Oakland office.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is based on experience. We offer health, vision, and dental insurance to full-time employees and cover 90% of employee premiums, and 50% for spouse, and dependents. We provide a 4% annual salary match to your 403(b)-retirement plan after one year of service, with a three-year cliff vesting. We also offer generous paid time off including vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.
Salary Range: $67,500 - $85,000 annually DOE
