Sequoia Grove

10 affordable homes in Hayward

In the heart of Hayward, a of tree-lined lot has long sat vacant on A Street. With the support of our community, Habitat for Humanity is transforming this empty parcel into Sequoia Grove: a thriving, affordable, climate-smart neighborhood.

The 10 townhomes of Sequoia Grove will be arranged into two duplexes and two triplexes, with central community features that draw the neighborhood together. And with innovative energy features like universal EV charging infrastructure, induction cooktops, heat-pump systems, and battery backup storage – Sequoia Grove is Habitat East Bay/Silicon Valley’s “greenest” development yet.

Key Features

Raising the Bar for Green Building

We are raising our bar for sustainability with universal EV charging readiness, battery backup storage, heat-pump systems, induction cooktops, new materials that increase insulation, and more. All this means utility savings, energy security, better indoor air quality, and a softer footprint on the earth.

Where Transit Meets Walkability

Sequoia Grove is situated just a few blocks from Hayward BART and I-880, around the corner from the train station, and just steps from a multitude of bus routes. It is also just steps from local parks and schools, making it ideal for young families. It is also just blocks from all the local amenities downtown Hayward has to offer.

Community Remains at the Heart

While each home will have private outdoor space, Sequoia Grove will feature elements like community tables, a play area, a community garden, and pedestrian paths that connect neighbors.

How We Build

We need volunteers to help build Sequoia Grove!  The majority of Habitat home construction is done by volunteers. That’s right – everyday people, including those who have never swung a hammer! Whether you come out on your own or sponsor a team building day, we need our community of support to help raise the walls on this development.

Volunteer spots will be opening soon!

How It's Funded

Building affordable housing in the Bay Area is no easy feat. From land acquisition to rising material costs, it’s tough to find the funding to build homes and sell them at an affordable price.

We rely on a balance of public and private support to make it happen. That means we depend on the mortgages of Habitat homeowners, on government funding sources,  and most of all – our community. Whether it’s a personal gift or a corporate sponsorship – or any of the many ways to support Habitat – it comes down to community.

Every dollar truly makes a difference.
