San Jose Flood Home Repairs

Last month, we shared that our Home Repair Program was working quickly to respond to the historic Coyote Creek flooding in San Jose, a disaster that forced more than 14,000 residents to evacuate their homes.

San Jose Flood Home RepairsThanks to dedicated volunteers and the ongoing support of people like you, Habitat’s efforts in the flood zone are playing a critical part of rebuilding this community.

“I lost a lot of stuff in my shed,” said homeowner Carol Gillespie. “I had a business where I sold my paintings. And I had all of that stuff in there and it wiped all that out. So I lost a lot."

When asked about what our work meant to her, Carol responded, “I was absolutely flabbergasted. Not only what they did, but the fact that they did anything, was just a blessing. I don’t have the money to do it and I don't have the strength to do it, but Habitat was there for me!”

Our expertise in mobile home repairs made Habitat EBSV the ideal partner for the City of San Jose. We are focusing our relief efforts in the South Bay Mobile Home community – serving low-income families who could not otherwise afford to make necessary repairs to their home.

While evaluating the flood’s damage, our Home Repair team found contaminated insulation and ducting which could result in mold and unsafe air quality if left untreated. Our team also encountered damaged siding and cracked piers — two critical components of the foundations.

In total, we plan to serve 42 households in the flood zone and are working to serve many more in need of affordable home repairs in San Jose.

We have already helped families in this community but there is still work to be done.

We need to raise an additional $70,000 that will be leveraged by funding  from the City of San Jose and CalHome to repair more homes in San Jose. We cannot meet this goal without the support of the entire community.

Will you consider helping out a family in need with a donation today?

Thank you for your support and making responses like this possible for families who face the unexpected uncertainties of a natural disaster.
