Construction Update: August

Before we dive into the construction update, we want to give a huge thank you to our 2018 - 2019 AmeriCorps service members. As we say goodbye to our hardworking AmeriCorps, we want to share our gratitude for all the laughter, sweat, and warm personalities that filled the construction site and our offices. Thank you, AmeriCorps, for another year of invaluable time and passion to build a better world! The memories made will always surround the walls and communities you’ve helped build. Fremont (Central Commons – 30 new homes, 2nd phase): Just a few short months ago, phase two of Central Commons was just a foundation, ready for walls. Now we have framing three stories high, and we’re doing pre-truss work, exterior sheathing, roof blocking and bracing, stairs, roof decking, fascia, roof eave plywood, utility closet roof framing, drywall, and house wrap!

San Jose (Bridge Housing Communities – 1590 Las Plumas, San Jose): This month marks a huge benchmark for our Bridge Housing Communities! We’ve moved the first six cabins to their new home just a few blocks away, around the corner on Mabury Road. Now we’re working on framing, electrical, roofing, insulation, siding, drywall, roofing shingles, and framing carpentry.

Family Fun Day! (Quarry Lakes – 2100 Isherwood Way, Fremont): Our Family Resource Committee (FRC) hosted its annual Family Fun Day! It was a day of barbecue, playhouses, face painting, kite flying, and more – but most importantly, it was a day of community. Habitat homeowners, AmeriCorps service members, volunteers, staff, and neighbors united to celebrate the 33 years of building community and building a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
