Esperanza Place

A 42-homes affordable community in the heart of Walnut Creek.

Take a look inside

A model for high-density, transit-oriented, sustainable communities

Located in the heart of Walnut Creek, these 42 townhomes ranging from one to four bedrooms will surround a central space built for community, accented with lit pedestrian paths, playscapes, and a sport court.

This neighborhood is designed for Zero Net Energy, which not only means it will produce more energy than it consumes, but it will also reduce homeowners’ utility costs. And with BART and buses just steps away, homeowners will be well-connected to work and play.

The homes of Esperanza Place will be sold through stable, affordable mortgages to households earning up to 120% of the area median income.

Key Features

Sustainable

Designed for Zero Net Energy – contributing more energy than it will consume – this neighborhood has “green” features from its rooftop solar panels down to its thermal mass foundations, from its advanced-framed interiors out to its water-wise landscaping and EV charging stations. Bottom line: slashed utility bills, comfort without the cost, and a healthier environment for homeowners and the rest of us, too.

Transit Oriented

Steps from BART and buses, Esperanza Place puts transit in easy reach of families who rely on it most. That, along with ample bike storage, limits congestion and emissions on our roads and doubles down on sustainability.

High Density

With space at a premium, Esperanza Place puts this unused infill lot to efficient use with smart planning. The townhome design means serving more families with less land and infrastructure, and housing more people near this economic and cultural hub.

Community Centered

Esperanza Place is built to build community. Anchored by a central community space, playscapes, benches, a sport court, and lit pedestrian paths, the neighborhood is made for mingling. Plus, it integrates seamlessly into the broader community with its color palette, style, and proximity to the Iron Horse Trail.

How We’re Building

We run on community! While there are some services for which we bring in professional builders, most of our construction is done by volunteers. That’s right – everyday people, including those who have never lifted a hammer! Whether you come out on your own or sponsor a team building experience, our construction site welcomes everyone aged 16+.

How We’re Funded

Habitat relies on the generous support of government partners, grants and foundations, and individuals throughout our community to make our work possible. From a $20 donation on our website, to a million-dollar development sponsorship. From in-kind donations of pallets of drywall to government funds from a voter-approved housing bond. Every dollar makes a difference.

How to Get Involved

Become a Habitat Homeowner

Habitat homeowners are our heart. From the hours they spend building their future homes and neighborhoods, to the hard work they do to become financially fit for homeownership, to the mortgages that pay it forward so Habitat can serve more people – Habitat homeowners are true partners in our work.

Homeownership through Habitat is open to households earning up to 120% of the area median income, and it begins with a pre-application, an orientation, and a full application. Applicants are evaluated on their ability to pay a stable, affordable mortgage, their need for housing, and their willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity. Successful applicants are added to our Buyer Ready List, from which they will be notified and considered for Habitat homes that match their income and needs.

Donate

Donating to Habitat for Humanity can take many forms. You might make a personal gift of any size via our website, cash, check, or even stock. Or, you may choose to make a planned gift from your estate, retirement assets, or trust. Some donate a vehicle. Others, lumber and paint. You could donate or shop for home improvement goods at ReStore, or have a gift deducted from your paycheck. However you do it, know that your generosity builds homes, communities, and hope.

Sponsor

Becoming a Habitat for Humanity sponsor means showing your team – and the community at large – where your values lie. It also means aligning your organization with one of those most respected and recognized brands in the philanthropic space, with marketing benefits to show for it. Sponsorships can be crafted at many levels and in many forms. Your company or organization could sponsor Habitat East Bay/Silicon Valley as a whole, a particular development, a program, or an event.

Or, you can give in a way that gives even more back to you – with team building! Through our Team Building program, we can curate a day for your group out at our construction site. You’ll leave with new bonds formed, skills learned, and hearts lifted.

Volunteer

Volunteers are involved in just about every aspect of Habitat for Humanity’s work. You’ll find volunteers on our construction sites with a variety of skill levels from beginners to skilled builders.

For safety reasons, most of our volunteer opportunities are designated for people aged 16 and older. We do have some limited opportunities for younger people to get involved, as well.

If you have time to give or a talent to offer, chances are that Habitat can put it to good use for our community!

    Meet Chet

It's just nice to know that your money is going into something you own. Just being able to say that you own it, that it's your own home... That you can live there forever if you want - you don't have to worry about having to move somewhere else, or about someone raising your rent."
